Tech Interview Secrets: How Freshers Can Walk In Prepared

LearnPact Faculty· 2 December 2023·7 min read

Facing a panel of experienced engineers as a fresher is intimidating — and a large share of freshers struggle to land that first tech job, often because of thin preparation and shaky confidence rather than a lack of ability. The good news: the interview rewards method more than magic. Here's the method.

Five steps to walk in prepared

Most interview failures trace back to skipping one of these. Work through them in order:

  • Brush up the basics — OOP, a working language or two, data structures, algorithms, operating systems and networks. A strong foundation makes everything else easier.
  • Practise coding daily — LeetCode, HackerRank and CodeChef build the muscle to apply theory under pressure.
  • Do mock interviews — rehearsing out loud with a peer or platform exposes gaps you can't see alone and calms the nerves.
  • Showcase real projects — a portfolio site, a GitHub profile or a hackathon entry proves you can build, not just recite.
  • Sharpen communication — articulating your thinking clearly often matters as much as the solution itself.

Confidence is built, not faked

Confidence in an interview isn't bravado — it's the quiet result of having prepared. Celebrate small wins through your prep, visualise the interview going well, and replace catastrophic self-talk with realistic affirmations.

Interviewers can tell the difference between someone bluffing and someone who's done the work. Do the work, and the calm follows.

Tailor and ask

Research the company's culture and the specific role, and shape your answers to fit. Then prepare a few thoughtful questions of your own — it signals genuine interest and turns the interview into a conversation.

Preparation, practice and a clear head: that's the whole secret. There isn't a shortcut, but there is a reliable path.
